Tamworth District Scouts comprises 14 separate scouting groups with a membership of just over 1,000 young people aged between 6 and 18 years, including beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers. It also has around 300 adult volunteers.

Girlguiding in Tamworth can boast similar numbers, giving a total in excess of 2,000 people of all ages.

Every two years we stage a Gang Show, a variety show starring Scouts and Guides which is put on for the public. Our next Gang Show will be held at the Assembly Rooms on the evenings of the 5th to the 8th March 2014.

The Show will be great fun for young and old alike, whether performing, helping behind the scenes or simply watching as part of the audience. It will also provide a fantastic experience for the youngsters who take part, helping them to develop skills, boost personal confidence and have a great time.

The Gang Show helps promote the development of young people in achieving their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international communities. It is with these aims in mind that the Show provides a challenge to anyone who takes part or helps and the sense of achievement when it all comes together makes all the hard work worthwhile.

At the end of every night of previous Gang Shows, the cast received standing ovations and it was great to see so many youngsters smiling and really enjoying themselves. When we all see so many headlines about the ‘wrong things’ that youngsters do, we in Scouting and Guiding in Tamworth want to promote the ‘good things’ that youngsters can achieve and the Gang Show is the perfect way to do this.

The cost of putting on such a production is substantial. Our current budget for expenditure is in the region of £9,000 to cover venue hire, costumes, scenery, etc. Whilst we will be able to offset some of these costs through ticket sales, there is always a shortfall which we are looking to cover through sponsorship, advertising and donations.
